Critical Thinking
Critical Thinking is an essential precursor to being able to acquire wisdom on an ongoing basis. It is the ability to be able to discern the truth and also be able to effectively problem solve, both of which are the most important building blocks for extracting the kernel of wisdom that results from self-reflection on life experiences.
Financial Literacy
Need to discuss state of financial illiteracy in the US and why it is allowed to exist in a capitalistic society. Financial Segregation and Financial Discrimination is necessary to keep the money distribution spread of capitalism so that continual wealth comparisons can be made, which help foster the “keep up with the Joneses” attitude that is necessary to have capitalism thrive. Personal and business finance is not taught in high school, even though we are a capitalistic society. This is perpetuated in order to segregate out a group of people to have fewer financial resources. Self-employment and contract work type of business structure can allow individuals to see the value they bring to their employers directly because they have complete control over their books, and can negotiate with a potential employer regarding payment which is the process that determines one’s true value to the employer. Fixed salary and wages employees do not have an understanding of how to account for changes in their true value to the company, because the financial books are typically hidden from most employees.
